This has been a great place to stay with helpful and cheerful proprietors - thank you so much - will have no hesitation in recommending this to others journeying in New Zealand!
About Us .......
At the Best Western Camelot in Christchurch, Penny and Brian share a passion for New Zealand and welcome their guests to their unique Christchurch motel accommodation and they love to help guests plan their itineraries in the beautiful South Island! Last year in July 2008 they won the AA Supreme Host of the Year Award for their award winning service and hospitality and again this year they were awarded Runnerup for 2009 so you can be assured you will be well looked after at their place!
Prior to being a Financial Planner for 20 years Brian was a sheep farmer in Ashburton so although he has a thorough knowledge of how to shear a sheep and deliver a lamb or two plus advise on how to prepare people financially for retirement he is also a whizz on replacing toilet systems, fixing heaters and pointing out directions to women on where the best shopping might be in Christchurch!!!!
Penny has done a variety of different things in her career too from training as a Radiographer, then Dairy farmer and Mum, Artificial Inseminator on dairy cows, Real Estate Sales, Bathroom & Kitchen Sales, Supermarket owner and then this exciting profession in the motel industry!!
For the time that Penny and Brian have owned the Camelot the staff turnover has been virtually nil and guests enjoy the fact that they will see familiar faces in the Housekeeping Team when they return regularly to stay. Our staff. Lee, Gwen, Kelera, Sekoula, Vere and Maree are pictured on this page on one of our fun nights together.
Judie and Jo Ryk are the permanent minders at the Best Western Camelot and run the place as if it is their own and have a wonderful rapport with lots of the regular guests. Judie and Jo have a background in the hospitality industry with experience in a variety of different places and locations so their knowledge of both the North and South Islands and places to go is extensive. On the staff excursion in the Tram Restaurant picture on this page, Judie and Jo are the couple in the middle at the bottom of the picture full of smiles. We are very lucky to have them as our back up and we appreciate their expertise immensely.
We have seven grandchildren and three of them Scarlet, Wilf and Emma are pictured on this page enjoying themselves down in the BBQ area by the pools. Sjorn, Evie, Dylan and Cole make up the total tally of seven! We love having other families here to stay and the space that we can offer is seldom found now in new motels. Refurbishment is an ongoing project at the Camelot and we pride ourselves in our cleanliness and the fact that we are virtually chemical free. (See Eco Friendly Page)
